Prepare router with 5/8" template guide and bit. A solid carbide two flute straight bit is recommended. (1/4" or 5mm)
Determine placement of borings and thread stop pins into guide.
Square center line across cabinet side.
With work secured to bench, clamp guide to work piece, aligning index mark to center line and stop pins against edge of work.
Adjust router for depth of cut. Mask holes not needed.
Bore holes. Move router from hole to hole being certain to allow the cutter to retract fully into the router base after each plunge.
Rotate work piece, complete boring operation.
To extend the line, pass indexing rod through an index hole at either end of the guide into a previously bored hole. With stop pins against edge of work, close clamps and complete boring.
shop tip
Develop a rhythm, allow the cutter to retract fully after each plunge, then tip the router out of the 5/8" hole and slide it to the next. The 5/8" holes are chamfered so the template guide finds it readily. Allow the router base to seat squarely on the guide before the next plunge. With practice you will be surprised at how quickly a line of holes can be bored.
